Achieve Excellence in Your Studies With the Sdy Prize

The aim of sdy prize is to encourage students who achieve excellent results in their studies in Chinese language and culture. Established in 2016 through the generosity of Dr To Wing, the award honours his commitment to promoting excellence in learning and encouraging more people to study the language and culture. The prize is awarded to a student who has completed senior units of study in Chinese with distinction or above. It is also available to postgraduate students (Honours to Doctoral level) whose research is in the area of eastern or esoteric religions who have submitted a thesis with high merit.

Awarded annually on the recommendation of the Head of the Department, after seeking advice from the annual examiners’ meeting, to the student who has achieved the best overall academic result in senior pass units in Japanese Studies. The prize is also open to Honours and Masters students who have undertaken a unit or units in the area of Japanese Literature.

This scholarship is offered to an undergraduate student who has the highest academic achievement in senior Art History and Theory units of study based on examination results. The scholarship is funded by the Department of Linguistics and honours Professor MAK Halliday, founding professor of the department. The scholarship is worth a total of $1500 as a one off payment.

Established in memory of Professor Michael Orange, the prize is awarded to an undergraduate student who shows the greatest proficiency in studies in the works of Jane Austen and other women writers of the eighteenth century, either by completing senior courses or an honours thesis on this period. The prize is worth a total of $1000.

Awarded to the student who does the best work in the course of a Master’s degree with a focus on Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander studies. The scholarship is worth a total of $2500 and is open to both full and part time students.

The purpose of the Levy Award is to recognise and reward outstanding work by a graduate student in History. The scholarship is worth a total of $3,000 and is offered to both full and part-time students. It is awarded on the basis of academic merit and will be based on a dissertation that is published or due to be published during the year of the award. The student must be the first author and sole applicant. The award is not available to students who have already been awarded another Levy Scholarship.
