Hong Kong is well represented at the Art Prize this year. Nine of the 16 artists on the shortlist hail from here, making it the most-represented city in the history of the award.

The winners of the first and second prizes are not paid out, but their money is added to a Jackpot (Duo Bao Jiang) pool for the next draw, and this can accumulate quite rapidly, giving rise to jackpots that can top HK$100 million, as has happened on several occasions in the past.

This year, there were a total of four mega draws, each worth more than HK$100 million in first prize and rollover prize. The largest jackpot was HK$164,492,500 in the September 2014 Mega Draw, which gave a single lucky ticket holder the chance to win a first prize of HK$100 million.

BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2022 , launched by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation with title sponsorship from Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, is a non-governmental merit-based award to inspire scientific researchers to continue innovative exploration in Hong Kong and to translate their research discoveries into real-world applications for society. This is the second year that the prize has been awarded.

Dr Fan Zhiyong , an HKU professor from the Departments of Electronic and Computer Engineering and Chemical and Biological Engineering, is one of the finalists for this year’s Xplorer Prize (Ke Xue Tan Suo Jiang), a top-level talent funding programme to encourage young scientists from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau to explore unexplored areas of basic sciences and frontier technologies. The winner will receive a total of RMB 3 million over five years, among the highest in the field.

The HK Phil is thrilled to have received the BOCHK Music and Education Award 2024 , supported by principal patron the Swire Group and music-lovers in Hong Kong and around the world, in recognition of its four-year project to perform and record Wagner’s Ring Cycle. The HK Phil will use the prize to further develop its educational work, and also to thank everyone for their support.
