A record 78 prizes were awarded at this year’s News Media Awards by the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong. Winners and runners-up were honoured for their exceptional work in reporting, writing, photography and design, with the addition of best news video this year. In particular, copy editor James Cook was named second runner-up for his story In the Green Fast Lane, which focuses on Hong Kong’s efforts to accelerate public and private electric vehicle adoption.
BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is an independent merit-based award that recognises scientists in Hong Kong who have made ground-breaking discoveries with societal impacts. Its monetary value is HKD 2,000,000 and will be presented in four fields: artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health sciences, physical science and materials, and advanced manufacturing and FinTech. No more than five persons should receive the reward in each field per year. BOCHK has set up a board to make decisions about the prize. Its members are experts in their respective fields and renowned scholars. They are responsible for suggesting important scientific research fields to THE PRIZE, appointing the Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team, and setting requirements for nominating experts. Their decisions are final.
