The HK Prize on Global Hong Kong Studies

The hk prize is the world’s first privately funded science award. It recognizes remarkable scientific achievements and is managed by the Shaw Prize Foundation. HKFP is a non-profit making organization and is supported by the government of Hong Kong, various corporations and other charitable organizations. Its main purpose is to promote and support research into Hong Kong history and culture, as well as the development of new theories, concepts and methods of studying the history and society of Hong Kong and its relations with China and Asia. It also facilitates the exchange of ideas and knowledge among scholars and students.

In the past 20 years, HKFP has awarded over 80 prizes to scholars for their outstanding contributions to the fields of Chinese and Hong Kong studies. It has also published a number of books. Its activities include the HKFP Best Article Prize on Global Hong Kong Studies, and it holds seminars and workshops to promote and encourage dialogues and collaborations between researchers.

This year, the HKFP Best Article Prize will be awarded to two scholars for their articles on the theme “Hong Kong’s role in facilitating international peace and reconciliation in Asia”. The winning article, by Dr. Lee Kwok-yung, is entitled “Hong Kong’s Role as a ‘Pioneer’ in the Field of International Peace and Reconciliation.” The other winning article, by Prof. Li Zhenhong, is entitled “A Manifesto for the Promotion of Hong Kong’s Contributions to Global Civilisation”.

The HKFA was established in 1993 and is managed by a board of directors comprising representatives from thirteen professional film bodies. Voting on eligible films for the HKFA is conducted from January through March every year. The HKFA Awards are presented in May every year at a gala ceremony at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

HKF’s mission is to build up the reputation of Hong Kong as an international academic and cultural center. HKF will continue to support and encourage scholars in Hong Kong and around the world to research, teach and publish on Hong Kong, its peoples, and its role in the world. The prestigious HKF Research and Scholarship Fund is available to assist them in their work. HKF is also a member of the Global Alliance for Asian Studies (GAAS). Its members share the goal of promoting and strengthening cooperation among scholars in Asia. They work together to advance regional understanding and contribute to the world community through their shared heritage and values.
