Hong Kong Prize
The Society for Hong Kong Studies is proud to sponsor the HK Book Prize, the latest addition to the International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) book prize family. It is aimed at encouraging scholars, researchers and students around the world to publish high quality books on global Hong Kong studies. The winning book will be presented in the 2023 ICAS Book Prize ceremony at ICAS, a global immersive platform which has brought over 20,000 academics and practitioners together for 11 years.
This year, a record number of researchers from HKUST applied for the Prize. Their research areas cover all aspects of science and technology, with artificial intelligence, life and health, new materials and energy, advanced manufacturing, and FinTech being particularly well represented. The Prize serves as an inspiration to scientific researchers to persist in innovative exploration, build careers here, serve the nation, and contribute globally.
Almost two-thirds of the shortlist for this year’s Art Prize came from Hong Kong, marking the highest representation for the city in the history of the award. Nine artists from Hong Kong are in the running, including 5B LAM Wing-yan, 6E YIM Yin-chun, WAN Hau-ming, 4A SO Fung-chi and 5C LEE Hoi-yi. They are among the 19 finalists, out of a total of 114 from the world’s leading art schools and universities.
It’s become a bit of a tradition for Hong Kong businesses to incentivize getting the Covid-19 vaccine as it struggles to boost the sluggish uptake. This time, billionaire Li Ka-shing’s CK Group and property developer New World Development have each pledged a total of HK$20 million to give away shopping vouchers via lottery for people who receive the shots. It’s the latest in a series of efforts by local tycoons to help boost the lagging vaccination rate amid growing public concerns about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.
